Thanks!

Of cause this user had by mistake erased the whole file and then just reloaded the latest update
No wonder nothing happened

Now it works

Big Thanks again to Feierabend for another great 'Problemloesung'

btw

for the record

it can arise that the data address shown in the spreadIB broadcast file settings may be different to that found in the spreadib\config file.

Use the one shown in explorer address bar for c\....data\IB and insert that into the config file using edit.

I don't know how I managed to screw that up but the solution was simple when I realised what I had done.

hey stic, (or anyone thats running windows 7

i was installing spread iB onto my windows 7 (64 bit) computer and i have been having difficulty getting it to save the C:/Users/<your user name here>/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Wave59
RT/data/IB...    it keeps reverting back to the original --

as well i have both regular java and 64 bit java installed so both should work from my understanding.

when i try to create new symbols i am getting a "configurartionruntimeException:failed to auto-save"  below is the picture ...

i got spreadiB running great on business vista but having a few hicupps with windows 7 really appreaciate any help keeps me from having to upgrade lol

Hi CP

I had the fail to autosave problem too.  I had to change the windows 7 permissions (similar to unix), to allow me to make changes to the spreadIB/config/settings file. For security I restricted the permissions to make changes to the spreadIB file only, can't be too careful these days.

Once I had done that I changed the original file, but you could alternatively use the spreadIB/broadcast settings/  instead to make the required changes, which might be safer.

The changes you want to make are the Destination Path:
c:\Users\rhythmstic\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Wave59 RT\data\IB

Broadcast port:
5959

...these work for me anyhow.

btw if you can see spreadIB collecting data then java is probably ok

thanks stic --- your a genius ...

for those wanting to know how to change permisions in windows 7 basically follow these steps in the blog --- it is a little different but you will get the idea.  http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to-take-ownership-grant-permissions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm

i just slected the whole spreadiB folder under Program Files (x86) and changed the permissions of that folder which will affect all subfolders.   then make sure you paste/place c:\Users\your personal user name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Wave59 RT\data\IB   inside broadcast settings --- of course make sure both wave59 & spreadiB are broadcasting to the same port 5959 is default for wave59 so change that in spreadiB

that should get you going in wave 59

thanks again stic wouldnt have figured that out ---

Hi Chris
I seem to have a problem with forex data. The price data is ok but the time data is stuck so that it all prints to one bar.
I am using ..

EUR_CASH_IDEALPRO_USD

GBP_CASH_IDEALPRO_USD

... have I missed something out?

Feierabend,

Again, GREAT SOLUTION

Could you add a function 'Refresh All Symbols' ?

And could you make all functions 'sticky' so that it does not change back to default?

Thanks
Hermann

BKX  to  ES  s p r e a d

In late afternoon that spread signaled that something was cooking (ES did not want to follow), then again signs of strength (retest of previous spread highs held)

On most days it does not pay to trade against the BKX

Hi Chris

When I first open spreadIB, the connection to IB closes immediately and I have a message 'Error- java long NullpointException.'

This error goes away when I open spreadIB again, so it is not a problem but it happens every day.

It might be something to do with my Java installation on my Win 7 PC and not spreadIB, I don't know.

regards

stic

stic,

I get that same error everyday also, you don't have to restart SpreadIB again, just click on reset  connection under file menu and it reconnects and stays connected all day.

Best,

Simon B.

Hi Simon

Thanks, that's easy I can do that lol

I see that CBOE are raising their subscriptiuon rate from 'free' to $2 / month, which seems exorbitant to me lol

I thought I'd see what that translated to in % terms.

Now I know if you multiply a number by 0 the answer is 0, but in this case we have to divide 2 by 0 and multiply by 100.

I can't decide whether the right answer is 0 which means there is no increase at all ( SO THAT'S ALL RIGHT THEN LOL)

.. or whether the answer is 100 x twice infinity which seems a little over top to me lol

... you're good at math, what do you think?

Hello stic,

this updated version should have fixed
that problem with forex data.
The time stamps for it will be updated now.

Simply extract the SpreadIB.jar from the zip-file
and replace it by your existing one.

Regarding the second issue, the null pointer exception ...

I don't have this every day,
only every now and then.
That's why it is difficult for me to grasp it.
If you both, Simon and stic, get this error every day,
then I think it's the best
when I release a special version
that writes some debug messages into a file.
Perhaps I can capture that error this way.
While I am writing this ...
yes, I will supply such a debug version in 1st or 2nd week of January.

Regarding $2 fee by CBOT:
They have 0$ now, that is no price at all.
If they introduce a $2 fee
then this is the base
to calculate further increments in percentages.
From a 0$ base
their percentage increment is undefined - or, when measured in dollars - $2.
What I want to say is
that you can't take percentages from nothing.
In an abstract formula
you'd relate a defined value ($2) to an undefined value (0).
This is like relating apples to vacuum.

Hi Chris

The restart problem is nothing to worry about, compared to what I have to do to start IB.

The update works fine, I can see forex bars updating perfectly now.

Your work seems pure genius to me, and I really appreciate what you do for us.

btw your English is better than many who live here in England, I had no trouble with it.

Hi Christoph

the exception error message which shows when first opening spreadIB in 'Win 7' is:

error - Java.Lang.NullPointer.Exception

It is not a problem for me as file\reset_connection only takes a second once a day.

Hi Feierabend,

Firstly I would like to say thanks for your generous contribution to the group.

I have been able to successfully install the new data feed and get some interesting results.  (I am finding ZB_ZN is more trending than sideways but that could just be my limited sample)

Are you able to share some of your trading techniques for spread trading?

Regards,
Matt S
